EAST NEW MARKET – Jefferson L. Elzey of East New Market died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at his home. He was 74. Born June 14, 1926, in Dorchester County, he was the son of the late Austin Arthur and Rosie Lillian Gray Elzey. During World War II, he served in Europe as a tank driver in the U.S. Army, Third Armored Division, under General George S. Patton. He also served during the Korean War and earned the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, and a United Nations Service Medal. After military service, he worked as a psychiatric aide at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center for 27 years. He also was a driver for Vocational Rehab, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Elzey is survived by his wife, the former Gladys Hall, to whom he was married July 27, 1958; three daughters, Gail E. Combs of Cambridge, Joann Tarr of Salisbury and Deborah L. Harris of Ocean City; a son, Jefferson W. Elzey of Salisbury; |
